- Step 1: Rinse the ume plums under cold water and remove any stems. This step ensures your plums are clean and ready for cooking.
- Step 2: In a large pot, combine the ume plums, sugar, and water. Stir gently to mix everything together.
- Step 3: Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Step 4: Once the syrup comes to a gentle boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 30 minutes.
- Step 5: Remove the pot from heat and allow the syrup to cool completely.
- Step 6: Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve to remove the plum solids.
- Step 7: Transfer the syrup to a clean, sterilized bottle or jar and seal tightly.
- Step 8: Store in the refrigerator for up to one month.
