- Step 1: Prepare the dashi broth by bringing it to a simmer in a large pot. If you're using water, just add a piece of kombu for flavor and remember to remove it before boiling.
- Step 2: Arrange the sliced beef, napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, tofu, and udon noodles (if you’re using them) on a large platter.
- Step 3: Once the broth is simmering, dip the beef slices into the broth for a few seconds until cooked to your liking.
- Step 4: Add the vegetables and tofu to the broth, cooking them until they are tender.
- Step 5: Serve the cooked ingredients with sesame sauce or ponzu sauce for dipping. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
- Step 6: Enjoy the meal directly from the pot with loved ones or transfer to individual bowls for a more formal setting!
Notes
One of the best parts of Shabu Shabu is how versatile it is! Feel free to use pork, chicken, or even seafood as protein alternatives. You can also try bok choy, spinach, or zucchini as vegetable options.
