Ingredients
  

For the Meat Doria
  • 1 cup cooked rice The base of our dish, giving it that hearty feel.
  • 200 g ground meat beef, pork, or a mix
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables carrots, peas, corn
  • 2 cups béchamel sauce the creamy goodness that binds everything together.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese such as mozzarella or cheddar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil for sautéing the onions and meat.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Parsley optional for garnish

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Step 2: In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  3. Step 3: Add the ground meat to the skillet and cook until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Step 4: Stir in the mixed vegetables and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until heated through.
  5. Step 5: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, meat mixture, and half of the béchamel sauce. Mix well.
  6. Step 6: Transfer the rice mixture to a greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
  7. Step 7: Pour the remaining béchamel sauce over the top of the rice mixture.
  8. Step 8: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the béchamel sauce.
  9. Step 9: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
  10. Step 10: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

To store your Meat Doria, let it cool completely, then cover it tightly with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container. It can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can also freeze it for up to 2 months.
