- Step 1: Start by rinsing the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and ensures a creamy porridge.
- Step 2: In a pot, combine the rinsed rice and water or broth. If you're using broth, it will add a lovely depth of flavor.
- Step 3: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once it's boiling, reduce the heat to low to let it simmer.
- Step 4: Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes. Stir occasionally, and keep an eye on the consistency. You want the rice to be soft and the porridge to reach your desired thickness.
- Step 5: Add salt to taste. Start with a little and adjust as needed.
- Step 6: Serve hot, garnished with your choice of optional toppings. I love adding sliced scallions for a fresh crunch!
