For the Buri Daikon
  • 300 g yellowtail (buri) the star of the dish, rich in flavor and omega-3 fatty acids
  • 300 g daikon radish adds a unique sweetness and texture that complements the fish
  • 4 cups dashi stock this Japanese soup stock forms the flavorful base
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce provides a savory umami depth
  • 2 tbsp mirin a sweet rice wine that balances the flavors
  • 1 tbsp sake enhances the overall taste with its subtle notes
  • 1 tbsp sugar just a touch to elevate the sweetness of the daikon
  • Green onions (optional)

Method
 

  1. Step 1: In a pot, combine the dashi stock, soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. Step 2: Add the yellowtail pieces to the pot and let them simmer for about 10 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Carefully remove the yellowtail and set it aside on a plate.
  4. Step 4: Add the daikon slices to the pot and simmer for 15 minutes, or until they are tender.
  5. Step 5: Return the yellowtail to the pot and simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
  6. Step 6: Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
  7. Step 7: Garnish with green onions, if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. When reheating, do so gently to preserve the texture.
